Running Wild Set for Woodward on June 13
Woodward’s second annual Running Wild adventure race is set for 8:30 am, Saturday, June 13 on the Kee Ranch, north of Highway 412, just outside of Woodward.
Jamie Kee, Mooreland, attorney and principal organizer for the race, said this year’s race will be more challenging than last year’s 3.75 miles with more obstacles. He urges all runners and outdoor enthusiasts to plan to participate.
The race will feature both natural and man-made obstacles and is for runners of all experience levels. The event is organized by a group of local attorneys, business, church and community leaders seeking to raise awareness and funding for Legal Aid in Woodward to meet the needs of low-income and elderly Woodward County residents with critical family-related legal problems, including domestic violence. The funds going to Legal Aid will be used to provide additional capacity to the Woodward Law Office for handling family law cases, with the goal of hiring a full=time family law attorney for that office.
In Woodward County, 3,327 are living at poverty level, including many seniors. Legal Aid provides legal assistance at no cost for persons facing civil legal problems dealing with housing, health care, income or family law.
To find out more information or to be a lead sponsor for the race, please call Jamie Kee at 580-994-2106.

My wife just told me the drains at our apartment are clogged again. She can’t even bathe
the kids and the landlord just ignores us. Since I lost my job, we can barely afford to pay
the rent, let alone hire a lawyer. CAN LEGAL AID HELP ME?
I’m so worried about my grandson’s safety. My daughter just can’t stay away from meth.
The DHS worker tells me I need a guardianship, but I can’t afford to pay a lawyer.
CAN LEGAL AID HELP ME?
We just received foreclosure papers on the house. Since my husband lost his job, we just
can’t make the payments. We would like to keep the house but we can’t afford to fight the
mortgage company. CAN LEGAL AID HELP ME?
This letter says my Social Security disability payments are being cut off. I don’t know what
to do. It seems like the Government can do anything it wants. CAN LEGAL AID HELP ME?
I’ve got to get out of my marriage. I haven’t talked to my husband in weeks. The stress is
having a big effect on the kids, but I can’t afford the retainer for a lawyer.
CAN LEGAL AID HELP ME?
Yes, Woodward County Legal Aid can help in all of these situations, and more. As you
can see, it isn’t just adults who suffer; children in our community are suffering from
this lack of representation as well. These victims are forced to live in abusive homes or
in unsafe environments because their families have nowhere to turn. Unfortunately, the
Woodward County Legal Aid office needs funding to ensure people with problems like
these will have their rights protected. You can help by providing monetary and in-kind
support for legal aid’s fundraising event Running Wild Adventure Race. Your contribution
can make a difference in their lives by ensuring these families have somewhere to turn for
help. Additionally, your sponsorship will serve as an example of what it means to live in
Northwest Oklahoma, where we take care of our own and when there is a need, we join
together as a community and help one another.
Please contact us at (580) 256-9000 or email info@runningwildrace.com to discuss
opportunities to promote your business at this event.
