About the Program

Our VOCA staff attorneys assist victims of crime, particularly victims of domestic abuse, with a wide range of legal issues arising from the victims’ abuse such as custody, child support, divorce, protective orders, guardianships, immigration, housing, expungements, and support for the victims in criminal cases in which they must participate against their aggressors.
LASO has partnerships throughout the state to assist crime victims, especially victims of domestic violence.
Who Does the VOCA Program Help?
LASO primarily helps low-income individuals who are the victims or sometimes even secondary victims of crime. Although, some victims may qualify for our services even if they would not ordinarily qualify for Legal Aid’s services.
Further, criminal charges do not need to be filed against the aggressor for a victim to qualify for our services. Domestic abuse may take numerous forms such as physical abuse, financial abuse, verbal/emotional abuse, controlling behavior, stalking, and harassment to name a few.
