About LASO

Our Work Across Oklahoma

Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. (LASO) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that provides civil legal assistance to low-income persons throughout Oklahoma. LASO was born in 2001 when Legal Aid Services of Eastern Oklahoma, Inc. and Legal Aid of Western Oklahoma were merged to create a unified program for the state which today maintains 18 offices and numerous partnerships across the state.

We work through unique partnerships with national funders and local community organizations to meet the legal needs of our neighbors. By informing and representing these people, LASO provides equal access to the Oklahoma justice system for seniors, low-income people, children, and more.

About LASO

Our Leadership

Michael G. Figgins, Executive Director

Mr. Figgins received his B.A. from Arizona State University in 1977, and his J.D. from the School of Law at Gonzaga University in 1980. Mr. Figgins has spent 33 of his years in practice as an attorney providing legal services to the poor. Mr. Figgins practiced as both a staff attorney and a managing attorney with Dakota Plains Legal Services in Mission, South Dakota, and then became the managing attorney for Community Legal Services in Yuma, Arizona. In 1989, Mr. Figgins was chosen as the Executive Director of Western Nebraska Legal Services. In 1995, Mr. Figgins was chosen as the Executive Director of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA). In March, 2012, Mr. Figgins was chosen as the Executive Director of Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma (LASO). Mr. Figgins is responsible for developing staff, program and community resources to benefit LASO.Mr. Figgins is a member of the Florida Bar, the South Dakota Bar, the Arizona Bar, and the Nebraska Bar.

Our Board of Directors

LASO is governed by a Board of Directors pursuant to the guidelines of the Legal Services Corporation. The Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from member agencies all across the State of Oklahoma. These representatives are both lawyers and clients. Lawyer representatives are selected from local bar associations and other legal organizations. Client representatives are selected from clients and agencies who service our clients. Quarterly Board Meetings are held alternately between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. All meetings begin at 2:00 p.m.
